Broken Motor?

Electronic locks can stop working when there is no electricity. If this is the case, the malfunctioning motor isn’t much of a problem. With electronic locks, all that matters is that the track is not stuck or jammed in any way. If the problem is just the electric motor, you can get back into your garage by locating the manual release cord and pulling on it. If you’re unsure of how to do this and simply can’t get back into your garage, call our team at Locks Pros. We’re happy to help!

Is the Lock Broken?

If your lock is broken, this may make it a bit trickier to unlock your garage door. Padlocks can be removed with bolt cutters if you have one at your disposal. Removing a broken lock can be made even more difficult if anti-burglary measures are in place such as anti-drill plates, steel pins, shackle shrouds, and so on. In the case that the lock is broken and there is no way that you can fix it or remove it, it may be time to call a locksmith. While destructive methods of getting into your garage may still be possible, calling one of our team members at Locks Pros could potentially save you from damaging your garage door.

Manipulate the Door Manually

To open the garage door manually from the outside, follow these steps: Go to the center of your garage door. Press your hand along the top and feel for a hinged release lever (it often has a rope attached to it), find something malleable, like a wire coat hanger and turn into a long hook, hook the release hinge and pull down toward yourself. The garage door should release and open manually. Anti-burglary hacks may prevent this tactic from working. If you’re out of luck and simply can’t get the door to open manually, give us a call at Locks Pro.
